About Us

Robin Schultes and Patrick Dubreuil live in Toledo, Ohio and have been working together since 1998.  Both artists have shown their work locally and nationally. Their working method in the hot shop is a partnership that goes hand in hand.  Patrick does much of the design work, and then works with Robin in the execution for many of their glass pieces.  They both carry their own distinctive style as individual artists, but when collaborating, they find that perfect balance.

Robin Schultes has been working with glass for over 15 years.  She began working with glass in 1991 at the University of Texas at Arlington under the watchful eyes of glass artists Jim Bowman and David Keens.  From there she moved to Ohio to study at Bowling Green State University under professor Bud Hurlstone, acquiring her Masters Degree in 2000.  Robin has also studied glass at The Studio at Corning and the Pittsburg Glass Center.  She has studied under artists such as Fritz Dreisbach, Ross Richmond, Richard Ritter and Jane Bruce.

Robin’s work has evolved to combine both glass blowing and flame working.  She loves mixed media and frequently uses prisma color and found objects in her sculptures.  She also enjoys making unique flame worked jewelry and sculpture at her home studio.  Robin currently teaches glassblowing and bead making at the Toledo Museum of Art - Glass Pavilion.

For Patrick Dubreuil, Glass has become another avenue for his artistic expression.  While earning his masters degree in sculpture at Bowling Green State University he met and began working with fellow student and future wife, Robin Schultes.  Beginning the glass experience nine years ago as Robin’s assistants, he quickly picked up the craft and began to express himself in this new medium.

As Patrick states, “For me, as with other forms of art like sculpture and printmaking, working in the hot shop became more about the process of making glass. From the first gather through to the finished form my focus was on becoming consistent.  Once I became confident in blowing forms I looked for something that would become more self expressive.  It was suggested to me that as a drawing instructor I should incorporate cane drawing into my work.  I am at the beginning of exploring this technique and I can imagine many exciting possibilities. Working in more of a sculptural way is also beginning to manifest itself in my glasswork.  Taking advantage of its fluidity, glass broadens my sculptural possibilities, whether that be glass alone or incorporating it with other materials.”  Patrick currently teaches drawing, 3-Dimensional Design and printmaking at both the University of Toledo and Lourdes College.

Both as a team and individually, Robin and Patrick have shown their art in many exhibitions and have won numerous awards for their work.  In 2004 they formed Soffietta art glass, a web site designed by Robin’s sister, Jennifer Schultes, to display and educate the public about their glass working.
